Protecting Workers Through Trench Safety Awareness
June 15–19 marks the 10th Annual Trench Safety Stand Down (TSSD), proudly sponsored once again by our NUCA National Partners. This event gives companies the opportunity to speak directly with employees and crews about excavation and trench safety. Participating companies are encouraged to pause work activities and conduct toolbox talks, safety demonstrations, or other training activities focused on the hazards associated with working in and around trenches and excavations.
TSSD continues to receive strong support from OSHA and the Trenching & Excavation Safety Taskforce (TEST). We encourage every NUCA member to take part in this year’s Stand Down and help promote June as Trench Safety Month.
The purpose of the event is to educate workers and employers on current excavation safety requirements, safe work practices, and hazard prevention. Trench Safety Stand Down Week provides employers with a valuable opportunity to reinforce the importance of jobsite safety and increase awareness of trenching and excavation hazards. Stand Downs emphasize the proper use of trench protective systems and the critical steps necessary to protect workers from serious injuries and fatalities.
By participating in a Stand Down at your jobsite, your company can help reduce the number of trench-related accidents, injuries, and fatalities that occur each year throughout our industry.
