SPRING BRINGS RENEWED FOCUS ON MAJOR TRANSPORTATION FUNDING PACKAGE
Congress is working on a new multi-year highway bill to reauthorize federal transportation programs set to expire on September 30, 2026. Lawmakers are currently negotiating overall funding levels for what is the largest infrastructure bill Congress considers.
NUCA has confirmed that House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves is aiming to introduce a bill in late April. However, Senate leadership has indicated that, due to the bill’s size and complexity, meeting the September deadline may be challenging. As a result, Congress may need to pass a temporary extension if the full bill is not completed in time.
NUCA is actively lobbying Congress throughout this process to ensure the bill supports critical infrastructure priorities and delivers strong investment levels. While the legislation is primarily focused on road and bridge construction, it also drives a significant amount of adjacent utility work – including water, sewer, and underground infrastructure – that directly benefits our industry.
